The Rams rolled to their third win of the season on Saturday against the Chabot Gladiators, with the offense, defense and special teams each playing a key part in their 49-23 victory. After a shaky start by the Rams defense, Chabot ran to a 6-0 lead early in the first quarter. The Gladiators were stalled on their next possession and were forced to punt. A bad snap went over the punter’s head and the kick was blocked. The Rams recovered in the end zone, taking a 7-6 lead and never looking back. The Rams defense swarmed all over the field, making gang tackles and big hits consistently, as well as providing the offense with good field position. The offense was led by freshman quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, who used his legs and a strong arm. Masoli passed 9-for-16 with 142 yards and two touchdown passes, and also rushed for 85 yards on eight carries. The Rams’ rushing game was also vital as they ran for 253 yards. Austin Curran ran for two touchdowns and scored a third on a reception, taking the Rams into halftime with a 35-9 lead. The special teams continued to excel by blocking two more punts and a field goal attempt. In the fourth quarter, Michael Hill ran back a punt for a touchdown, giving the Rams a commanding 49-9 lead. Chabot had two late touchdowns against the Rams’ reserve players to close the gap. The Rams improve to a 3-1 record and with big games against Los Medanos and Feather River in the next two weeks, they hope to build on their momentum.
