Editor,

I am writing this letter in response to the column written by opinions editor Shaunn Cartwright in the May 1, 1998, issue of The Guardsman.

The statements she made about me were based not on fact, but on personal assumption. I cannot understand how her column made it to print. Her work is a discredit to The Guardsman.

For two semesters, Cartwright has used the op-ed section of The Guardsman to promote her own agenda. She writes about subjects that are of no interest to anyone but herself.

She chooses which letters to the editor to print based solely on her caprice without thought or care of the interests or needs of the students of this college.

As a fellow journalist, I extend my congratulations to the Guardsman staff for capturing over 30 awards at the last Journalism Association of Community Colleges conference. I just wish that the students of City College could read The Guardsman without being subjected to the writings of this over-opinionated editor.

John Caldera
Inter-Club Council Vice President
