Personality Tests a Boon to Job Seekers

Personality assessments are becoming the hottest items in the employee screening process. If you are looking for a job, you can expect to be tested!

A new program was launched by the Advantage Companies which helps job seekers prepare for the search by testing themselves through a desktop Internet connection at www.advantagecareer.com. The Advantage Career Center’s Career-Minder Assessment is inexpensive, easy, even fun and helps job seekers refine their searches to the areas in which they are most likely to succeed.

"Whether you are looking for your first job after graduation or making a mid–life career change, you can benefit from an analysis of your core personality traits," explained Chris Smith, president of the Advantage Companies. "By learning how your personality traits affect your actions and interactions in the workplace, you can make the choices that will put you on the path to success."

Choosing the right career path and finding the right job is as close as your PC, according to Smith. "Learning about yourself gives direction to your goals," he added. "After you know yourself, you can proceed on an appropriate course of education or skill training, followed by preparation of a certifiable resume and broad–based job search."

The Advantage Career Minder assessment, a 48-item personality inventory, evaluates six core personality traits as highlighting which job requirements may be the most challenging for your personality type. The results are then compared with traits frequently found in successful people occupied in 11 job categories: medical, legal, entrepreneurial, sales, production, counseling, technical, teaching, management, service and administrative.

"The full report even suggests how to overcome some of the challenges each job category might pose for you," Smith said.

Advantage also offers a free Career Change Readiness Assessment. "The readiness assessment helps you see how prepared you are for a job change," Smith added.

And, because substance abuse is so prevalent in today’s workplace, a Substance Abuse Screening Test allows job seekers to analyze the attitudes that indicate their level of risk for substance abuse, much as a prospective employer would.

Once job seekers know they are on the right path and that they have accumulated the right education and skill training, the Advantage Career Center offers certification for their accomplishments.

"The Advantage Certified Employee program provides documentation that demonstrates your willingness to undergo thorough background screening, and can give you a substantial edge over other applicants whose background and personality have never been verified," Smith said.

Advantage Certified employees receive a numbered certificate that guarantees their education, skills, professional certificates and licenses and previous employment have already been checked. Through the certificate number, prospective employers can access a full background check through the Internet.

The Center also provides links to Resume Partners and Placement Partners who can help job seekers with resume preparation and circulation. Other delivery options include e-mail, fax, Priority Mail and overseas mail.
