About

The Guardsman and its news magazine Etc. are the student-run publications of the City College of San Francisco.

The Guardsman was launched by the Associated Students during the college's first semester in 1935. It's gone through many iterations since, but continues to deliver vital news and information for the college community. Etc. was launched by the Department of Journalism in the 1990s as a vehicle for longform reporting and photo stories.

The Guardsman covers local news beats, sports highlights, college-focused stories and community events with eye-catching photography and illustrations.

Both publications consistently win awards from the Journalism Association of Community Colleges as well as regional, statewide and national collegiate contests.
