City College snapped their three-game losing streak on Oct. 10, eviscerating the Lions 45-21.  Those 45 points are the most for the Rams in any single game this season. The win brings their record to 3-3 on the campaign.

“The big thing on our offense was to build from the last game, and put together a more grounded offensive game where we could balance,” said coach Eduardo Nuño.

The Rams offense was slow out of the gate but grew stronger as the game went on. Quarterback Santana Ortiz had a phenomenal game, passing for 272 yards on 32 attempts and netting five touchdowns in the process.

“This is the fourth quarterback that we’ve used [so far this season],” Nuño said. “We had some injuries, [but] I think every game, it's [been] a good experience for him.” Nuño said he’s looking forward to seeing Ortiz continue to “develop.”

Rams tight end Keion Goodwin, who scored a touchdown in the third and finished the game with 45 yards on three receptions, said that he “felt great” and that he “felt confident coming into this week.”

“After just repping plays and practicing, we had a good practice all week,” Goodwin said.

The Rams defense played exceptionally well, picking off the Lions quarterbacks three separate times. The defensive unit also gathered 11 tackles for loss to go along with a sack from defensive tackle Mikatoa Scanlan.

Linebacker Jehden Robinson contributed to the defense with two assist tackles and one tackle for loss. “I felt good, I'm the guy that's always gonna get better,” Robinson said. “I feel like we’re in a good position to make some plays.”

The game however was an “undisciplined" one for the Rams, according to Robinson. They totalled 19 total penalty calls, several of which were called for unsportsmanlike conduct and false starts, resulting in a loss of 187 yards.

“I felt we could have been a little bit more disciplined close to the end because we got really undisciplined at the end,” Robinson said.

“I think our defense has the potential to be very good. Obviously there’s some missed tackles that are concerning,” Nuño said. “But I think we just got to be more consistent.” He mentioned  the 80-yard pass to Lions running back Isaiah Addison that resulted in a touchdown as an example.

City College will play against San Jose City College in an away game on Oct. 17 at 6 p.m.
