Construction is limiting access to John Adams Center. Several students have complained about access to the building.

“They took a big chunk of the disabled parking,” said Erica Jackson, a second year healthcare information technician student who has to park in accessible parking. “There’s only four spots here.”

There are only a few accessible parking spots in the Grove Street lot at the back of the building, which is labeled for faculty parking. Several storage crates block access to the spots.

As for building entrances, the west and central entrances on Hayes Street are closed and east side Grove Street entrances are exit only, while the northeast side of the building on the second and third floors are completely blocked off.

Sandy Chan, a first year nursing student, said the disruption has been minor.

“The noise is pretty minimal compared to what you would normally expect,” she said.

According to Alberto Vasquez, the associate vice chancellor of facilities, the renovation is set to finish in a “couple weeks.” The roof replacement is still underway.

“We're waiting for the roofing contractor to get their material, and we have a phased approach to minimize any water intrusion,” he said.

Roof repairs are a priority for the facilities department. “Over the next couple of years, hopefully 100% of our buildings on campus will have a new roof or roof repairs,” Vasquez said.

The center is undergoing a roof replacement and renovations to relocate the nursing, digital medical imaging, and dental assistant programs from Cloud Hall at Ocean Campus.
