EV Chargers Removed and Replaced on Campus Lot
After Shell tore out and paved over Ocean Campus' electric vehicle chargers last spring, 10 Blink stations now stand in the same spots, with two more coming to Ocean Avenue.
With the thousands of students commuting to City College of San Francisco, the college has found ways to accommodate their students in every way, specially those who drive to campus. Last semester, the college instated a shuttle that would drive students from a satellite lot to stop around Ocean Campus.
For more energy efficient drivers, 11 electric vehicle chargers were installed throughout the campus in 2021. The board of trustees approved a 7-year contract with Volta Charging, citing a monthly revenue for the college and "free advertising" for the chargers while not paying a lease for the charging build-out.
Last spring, The Guardsman reported on two contracts amounting to more than $60,000 for about 40 days of services to shuttle student drivers to Ocean Campus. In the same semester, Shell USA Inc. demanded its EV chargers back, ripping them off Ocean Campus and paving over where they used to be.
The new charger locations are at the same spots the previous chargers were around campus.
Not all of the EV chargers have the same exact charging power. The stations located behind Cloud Hall on Cloud Circle and two more down at the Bungalows parking lot below the George R. Rush Stadium have 19kW of power in them.
As of now, there are 10 Blink EV charging stations in and around Ocean Campus, while two are being installed on Ocean Avenue at separate shopping center parking lots.
