Rams Trounce American River College 6-0 in Home Opener
City College women’s soccer continues their dominant start to the season
The Rams cruised to victory against the American River College Beavers on Tuesday, September 8. City College made a statement early, netting two goals in the first six minutes of the game.
Luz Hernandez and Chemnui Simpson started the scoring off first, with the latter putting away a penalty kick. Twenty-three minutes in, Abigael Zennadi scored off of an assist from Simpson to put the Rams up 3-0 at the half.
Kimberly Rubio added to the score in minute 53, from an assist from Kylie Caras. Nuria Lopez Adorno scored in minute 67 off an assist from Zennadi.
Mia Obando capped off the scoring in minute 75, assisted by Mireya Valle. In total, the Rams put 14 shots on goal to the Beavers’ two.
“The thing that I like is that we had six different goal scorers, which I think is really important for us. It’s something that we talk about as a team – that we’re not reliant on any one person,” said Head Coach Jeff Wilson.
Sophomore Gabriela Jackson echoed this sentiment in sharing the keys to the Rams’ emphatic win. “We were able to be successful in the win because when we lost the ball we worked hard to win it back immediately, and we were brave and kept taking chances to help us create opportunities to get to goal,” she said.
Wilson continued, “It doesn’t matter who we’re playing; we’ve got to play at our best. We didn’t do that at times throughout the entire game.”
The match got chippy at times, with three cards being assessed in the game. With five minutes remaining in the game, American River College player Vanessa Huerta received a straight red card.
